The 123 chassis are among the most durable, stylish, and sought after automobiles ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. This is an amazing example of one of the limited few that still remain phenomenally well preserved.

Exterior Condition: The Colorado Beige paint is 100% original and 100% rust free. The condition is absolutely phenomenal! It is clear and deep, not faded or oxidized, and literally shines like brand new. There are a few very, very minor blemishes, but the overall impression is astonishing. The polished aluminum trim, which wraps all of the exterior glass and also runs along the roof rails is brilliant, without any scratches or fading, the latter being a telltale indicator that the car has always been garage kept. Both the front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition, and the rubber body sleeves and bumper guards are in like new condition as well. The original belt molding body trim, which lines all of the doors, fenders, quarter panels and rear hatch is near perfect, with absolutely no fading or scratches. The factory 14” alloy steel rims and original matching Colorado Beige hubcaps are in perfect condition; I located 5 original stainless steel hubcaps, not chrome, and had them polished and painted, with a matching 5th hubcap for the spare. The Michelin 195/70/R14 tires are like new, along with the factory spare in the rear compartment. The original factory tool kit is still in its unopened plastic packaging. The era correct pinstripe is excellent, and shows only a slight patina in one or two places, given its 30 year age. The original door seals, trunk seal, glass seals, rubber weather-stripping, etc., are still soft, pliable and in excellent like new condition. The original factory glass is excellent. The original chrome grill is excellent. The headlamp housings are beautiful, as are the side markers, and all of the emblems are bright, shiny and excellent. The taillights are bright and flawless without scratches or fading. Original factory signature window sticker, interior stickers, interior door jam specification plate, dealership inspection signature sticker, etc. are all excellent.
NOTE: THE UNDERCARRIAGE, FUEL DOOR OPENING, FUEL LINES, ETC., STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL RUST PROTECTIVE COSMOLINE WAX UNDERCOATING (see photos), AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO RUST ANYWHERE ON THE VEHICLE. This coating is a wax like material which the factory spread on top of its already 30 pounds of plasticized vinyl (i.e. a think blanket of rust protection on the underbelly and hidden cavities of the body).

Interior Condition: The interior to this wagon is absolutely stunning! It is nothing short of going to the Dealership in 1979 and purchasing the car brand new. The Bamboo MB-Tex vinyl upholstery is in perfect, like new condition. There are no rips, no tears, no fading, no diminished support in the padding, no pleats that have shifted beneath the stitching, and virtually no wear whatsoever. The parcel nets on the front seat backrests are snug against the seats. The original berber wool loop carpet still has the factory sheen, which you only find on low mileage examples, and it is excellent, with virtually no wear at all. The real zebrano wood dash and console trim are stunning, with a clear, deep and durable shine, and there are absolutely no cracks or fading. The headliner looks brand new. The door panels have absolutely no stretching, ripples or tears, and the map pockets are excellent without any cracks or scuffs. The original unopened first-aid kit appears to have never been used. The instrument cluster is stunningly bright, without any faded needles or aging. The accessory switches, knobs, buttons, turn signal lever, cruise control lever, etc. are all in excellent condition without any faded symbols, and they are all in proper working order. The steering wheel is firm to the grip without any twisting or slack. The roadside trunk reflector and original tool kit, jack, etc. are all in excellent condition.
NOTE: VALIDATION TO BEING GARAGE KEPT AND HAVING EXTREMELY LOW MILES FOR A WAGON IS EVIDENT IN THAT THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO CRACKS IN THE DASH, THE EXTERIOR POLISHED ALUMINUM TRIM HAS ABSOLUTELY NO FADING, THE ORIGINAL RUBBER WINDSHIELD GASKETS AND BUMPER SLEEVES ARE PERFECT, ORIGINAL CARPET STILL HAS FACTORY SHEEN, AND THERE IS NO SUN SHRINKAGE OF THE PUCKER MOLDINGS (i.e. the molded bamboo colored plastic that surrounds each interior window frame). All of these items are unusually flawless given the sunny California weather.

Mechanical Condition: This wagon runs absolutely excellent and has been exceptionally well maintained since new. Its durable and fuel efficient 3.0 liter, 5-cylinder diesel motor is smooth and strong, and it gets an average of 27 plus MPG. Cold starts are instantaneous, which is validation to its low miles, and the motor, chassis and engine compartment are exceptionally clean and dry. The transmission shifts sure, timely, and proper. Independent suspension is solid and comfortable, hydropneumatic rear axle level control works excellent and proper, and the steering is tight and responsive. Recently the car received its scheduled maintenance service, new front and rear brake pads, valve adjustment, new fuel filters, 40k service which included flushing all of the fluids, etc., and there are currently no pending maintenance issues.
NOTE: THIS CAR WOULD BE A PERFECT CANDIDATE FOR ANY ALTERNATIVE FUELS, SUCH AS BIODIESEL, STRAIGHT VEGETABLE OIL (SVO), WASTE VEGETABLE OIL (WVO), ETC.

Accessories Condition: All power windows function excellent. Central locking works fast and proper, and one key fits front doors, trunk, and glove compartment (2 original keys included; master and spare). Cruise control sets and holds properly. Air conditioning/heater/defroster all work efficient and excellent, and blow from the proper vents respectively. Becker Europa AM/FM Cassette Stereo works excellent, along with adjustable height power antenna. Instrument cluster gauges all work excellent, including; clock, odometer, tripometer, rheostat illumination switch, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, etc. Seats adjust smooth and proper. History: This car was purchased on December 17, 1979 from Mission Viejo Imports, in Mission Viejo, California, by Mr. & Mrs. J. & S. Common of Costa Mesa, California. The wagon has remained in Costa Mesa ever since. I purchased the car from them back in January and have spent the past few months lovingly restoring the car back to its showroom-like condition.

NOTE: This car has the most extensive maintenance log and diary I have ever seen, and I have seen many similar to this, (i.e. every recorded fueling since new, including the odometer reading at the time of fueling, how many gallons consumed, cost of fuel, miles per gallon, etc. Also, every lubrication service, repair service, maintenance service, tires, trip diary, etc. over 100 pages in total, which includes everything that has ever happened to the wagon. History: This car was purchased in April of 1982 by Mr. J. Banks, an engineer from Pasadena, CA. He and his wife drove the car very sparingly over the course of 22 years, and he maintained it with the utmost specificity, which can be validated through the records. According to the Granddaughter of the Banks’ (who inherited the car in February of 2004) her grandparents mainly used the car as a “Sunday Driver”.  When she and her husband acquired the car in 2004 it had a mere 36,000 original miles, which is recorded on the AZ Certificate of Title; AZ is where they live. They used the car (1 of 3 cars they own) as transportation to and from work, a daily distance of only several miles round trip since they worked so close to home. I purchased the car from them, and have lovingly restored it back to its showroom-like condition.

Note: I had the original blue and yellow California license plates restored, but unfortunately, since the car left the state of CA in 2004 they will no longer honor the original plates, which is only sad news to those living in CA.

All of these items are unusually flawless given the sun drenched southern California weather.

Exterior Condition: The exterior condition, specifically the paint, is going to be difficult to describe, and because of this, I am hoping to sell the car locally to someone who can see it first hand. I am not saying this to discourage any potential buyers who are out of the area, I am just letting those interested know that the paint looks different in person than in the photos. Now, with that said, I will try my best to describe its appearance. From a distance, and in certain lighting, the paint looks phenomenal. It is clear, with a deep shine, and it looks excellent.  But, in other lighting (i.e. direct sunlight during mid-day), the paint shows a defect in the clear coat.  The clear coat is not peeling in any way, and to the touch it is as smooth as silk, but instead, the failing clear coat is in the form of very, very fine scratches.  This defect can be seen best in photo #30, on the top of the fender just above the pinstripe. Astral Silver is highly metallic, and this color, along with many other Mercedes-Benz metallic colors from this era have the same problem.  In fact, Mercedes-Benz warrantied this defect for many years, although they no longer honor this given the vehicle’s age.  The paint is mostly original, about 85%, although it has been repainted along the passenger side below the belt molding door trim, and in this area you do not see the clear coat problem. It was repainted when the first owner scratched it in a parking lot. There are a few very, very minor blemishes other than those, but I feel the overall impression is still excellent. In fact, to me, the patina of the original paint, even with the clear coat defect, just adds character to this car because the mileage is so astronomically low.  Now, the rest of the exterior is excellent! The polished aluminum trim, which wraps all of the exterior glass and also runs along the roof rails is brilliant, without any scratches or fading, the latter being a telltale indicator that the car has always been garage kept. Both the front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition without any scratches in the chrome, and the rubber body sleeves and bumper guards are in like new condition as well. The original belt molding body trim, which lines all of the doors, fenders, quarter panels and trunk is near perfect, with absolutely no fading or scratches. The factory 14” light alloy rims and original matching Astral Silver hubcaps are in excellent condition, with only a slight patina on the 31 year old hubcaps. The Michelin tires still have 75% of their tread, the spare tire is like new and appears to have never been used, and the same goes for the original factory tool kit and jack. The trunk compartment is excellent, and also appears to have never been used. Era correct pinstripe has a slight patina, although it has not been polished through in any section, and it looks great. The original door seals, trunk seal, glass seals, rubber weather-stripping, etc., are excellent, and the original factory glass is excellent as well. The original chrome grill is excellent. The original headlamp housings are unbelievably excellent, as are the side markers, and all of the emblems are bright, shiny and excellent. The taillights are bright and flawless without scratches or fading. Independent suspension is solid and comfortable, and the steering is tight and responsive. History: This car was purchased on Valentine’s Day, 1978, at Downtown Los Angles Mercedes-Benz, for a Mrs. F. Pike (note the “PIKE 3″ personalized blue and yellow CA license plate in photo 50, and this is also shown on the original accompanying MB Data Plate). The car was driven somewhat regularly in the first several years, and even made a trip to Greenville, SC in April of 1979 according to the Mercedes-Benz Dealership Maintenance Booklet (i.e. 9,000 miles Lubrication Service performed by Snyder’s Auto Sales in Greenville, SC). For the past 20 years the car has only been driven about 500 miles per year, due to the owner’s limited neighborhood driving and her age. There are a few very, very minor rock chips, but the overall impression is astonishing! The polished aluminum trim is brilliant without any scratches or fading, the latter being a tell tale indicator of a car that has always been garaged. Both the front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition without any scratches in the chrome, and the attached rubber body sleeves and bumper guards are like new. The original belt molding body trim is excellent without any fading or scratches. I located and purchased 4 stainless steel hubcaps to replace the original factory chrome plated hubcaps, then I had them polished and painted in the correct Light Ivory, and they now look brand new, with a deep shine you can only get with stainless steel. The tires are brand new. The trunk compartment is excellent and looks as if it has almost never been used. The factory spare tire has never been used. The original door seals, trunk seal, glass seals, rubber weather-stripping, etc., are still soft, pliable and in excellent like new condition. The original factory glass is excellent. The original chrome grill is excellent. The headlamp housings are beautiful, as are the side markers, and all of the emblems are bright, shiny and excellent. The zebrano wood dash trim is stunning! It is clear and deep with a durable shine, and there are absolutely no cracks or fading. The headliner looks brand new. The door panels and map pockets are excellent without any cracks, scuffs or tears. The front center cargo tray appears to have never been used, as does the original first-aid kit. The instrument cluster is bright and flawless, without any faded needles or aging. All of the accessory switches, knobs, buttons, turn signal lever, cruise control lever, etc. are in excellent condition without any faded symbols, and they are all in proper working order. The steering wheel is firm to the grip without any twisting or slack. The factory tool kit and jack are all in excellent condition.

The 123 chassis are among the most durable, stylish, and sought after automobiles ever produced by Mercedes-Benz. This is an amazing example of one of the limited few that still remain phenomenally well preserved. The coupe had the lowest production numbers of all the 123 chassis, and this is undeniably one of the best examples still on the road today.

The original owner waxed the car 5 or 6 times a year, but NEVER once had the paint polished. It was lightly buffed for the first time about one month ago. There are a few very, very minor rock chips and scratches, but not a single ding, and the overall impression is stunning. The polished aluminum trim is brilliant without any fading. Both the front and rear bumpers are in perfect, like new condition, without any scratches, and they shine brilliantly. The original belt molding body trim is excellent without any fading or scratches. The factory 14” Bundt rims were recently refinished with the factory Mercedes-Benz silver including 3 coats of clear. The Michelin tires are brand new. Era correct pinstripe is flawless. The original door seals and rubber weather-stripping are still soft and excellent, and look like brand new. The original chrome grill is perfect. The headlamp housings are beautiful, as are the side markers, and all of the emblems are bright, shiny and excellent. Original factory glass is excellent. Original factory signature window sticker, interior stickers, interior door jam spec plate, etc. are all excellent.

The door panels and map pockets are excellent without any scuffs, cracks or tears. The parcel nets on front seat backrests are snug against the seats. The front and rear center cargo trays appear to have never been used, as does the original unopened first-aid kit. The instrument cluster is bright and flawless, without faded needles or aging. All the accessory switches, knobs, buttons, turn signal lever, cruise control lever, etc. are in excellent condition without faded symbols, and they are all in proper working order. The steering wheel is firm to the grip without any twisting or slack. The original spare tire has NEVER been used, and roadside trunk reflector, tool kit, etc. are all excellent.
NOTE: Although this Coupe has undeniably been garage kept since new, and has always had a front and rear protective dash cover, there are several small hairline cracks in the dashboard. The photos show a Coverlay dashboard cap, which fits secure and tight over the original dashboard, and looks virtually unnoticeable. Further, it can be removed easily should the new owner prefer the original. (See photos). Also, I am including the original front and rear protective felt dash mats, along with the front seat protective sheepskin covers.

Mechanical Condition: This diesel runs absolutely perfect, with so much power it is comparable to the turbo model. It has been unbelievably well maintained since new, with comprehensive records that reflect the most meticulous maintenance I have ever seen. Unbelievably, less than 5k miles ago, the owner had the motor and transmission completely overhauled, which cost $10,000 (see maintenance record photo). Further, the car also recently received a new A/C servo control unit ($1,100), new upper and lower control arms, new shocks, new belts, new hoses, and-on-and-on-and-on, which can all be validated upon request. Its notorious and durable 3.0-liter, 5-cylinder motor is efficient, smooth and strong. The motor, chassis and engine compartment are exceptionally clean and dry, and there are no leaks of any kind. There is a small chip in the drive side seat belt housing, which did not appear in the photos, although I am working on getting a replacement before the auction ends.

History: This Coupe was originally purchased on March 3, 1981 from Palmer Imports in Long Beach, California, and has remained with the same owners in California ever since. As I mentioned before, I have never seen a documented history quite as fanatical, as I have mechanical receipts totally $35,000, while the rest of the car is still original. Optional Repairs and General Wear: There is one small chip in the original factory windshield, which can be replace for a nominal amount, although I felt it was more important to keep it original and let the new owner decide if they want to change the glass or have it repaired. There is a small indentation between the A/C knob and cigarette lighter on the center console above the Becker stereo, which could most likely be pushed back out if removed (see photo 36)

History: This sedan was originally ordered on January 6, 1976 from Phil Smart Mercedes-Benz in Seattle, Washington. Because of the special order Maple yellow and black color combination (which I should note I have never seen before), it took four months for delivery, and on April 12, 1976 it was delivered to its new owner, a dentist who resided in Federal Way, WA, which can all be validated through records. The car was driven sparingly for its first 15 years, before it was given to the son of the original owner who lived in Santa Cruz, California. The son put only 2,000 miles on the car since 1991, and cared for it exceptionally well. He sold the car last year to the third owner in Santa Cruz, who was a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast, and he sold the car to me.

Exterior Condition: The Anthracite Grey Metallic exterior is stunning! It is clear and deep, not faded or oxidized, and shines like new. There are a few minor blemishes, but the overall impression is excellent. The polished aluminum trim is excellent, both the front and rear bumpers are excellent and the rubber bumper end caps are brand new. Luggage rack and rare factory cross bars are excellent. Belt molding body trim is brand new. Pirelli Cinturato P3000 tires have less than 5k miles (size, 205/70/R14) along with an identical spare and are like new. Era correct pinstripe is flawless. The original door seals, glass seals, rubber weather-stripping, etc., are in excellent condition. The grill is excellent. The headlamp housings are beautiful, as are the side markers, and all of the emblems are bright, shiny and excellent. The taillights are excellent. Original factory signature window sticker, interior stickers, interior door jam specification plate, etc. are all excellent.
NOTE: The undercarriage still has traces of the original protective cosmoline wax undercoating (see photos 49-51). This coating is a protective wax which the factory spread on top of its already 30 pounds of plasticized vinyl–a think blanket of rust protection on the underbelly and hidden cavities of the body.
NOTE: Since these photos were taken, all 4 rubber end caps to both the front and rear bumpers were been replaced with new OEM parts, and also, the tires were replaced with higher quality Pirelli tires.

Interior Condition: The interior to this wagon is excellent! The Palomino MB-Tex is in perfect, like-new condition. There are no tears, no fading, no diminished support in the padding, and virtually no wear whatsoever. The parcel nets on the front seat backrests are like new and snug against the seats. The carpet was replaced with factory OEM Mercedes-Benz material less than a year ago. The real zebrano wood dash trim is stunning, with a clear, deep and durable shine, and there are absolutely no cracks or fading. The headliner is excellent, the door panels and map pockets are excellent without any scuffs or tears. The accessory switches, knobs, buttons, etc., are all in excellent condition without any faded symbols, and they are all in proper working order. The steering wheel is firm to the grip without any twisting or slack. The original unused first-aid kit, roadside trunk reflector, tool kit, etc. are all excellent.
NOTE: Although this wagon has always been garage kept, the dashboard has several small cracks. It has been fitted with a Coverlay Dashcap, which from my experience is the best product of its kind and it looks great!…virtually unnoticeable.

Mechanical Condition: This station wagon runs absolutely excellent, and has been very well maintained since new. It has never missed a single scheduled service. Its durable 3.0 liter, 5-cylinder, turbo charged motor is efficient and strong, and gets great fuel mileage. Cold starts are instantaneous, which is validation to its low miles, and the motor, chassis and engine compartment are exceptionally clean and dry with brilliant components. The transmission shifts sure, timely, and proper. Suspension is solid and comfortable, and the steering is tight and responsive. Hydropneumatic rear level control works excellent.
NOTE:Recently the car had a major service which included, but is not limited to: completely new A/C system (nearly every component involved all the way down to a new push button unit and conversion to R134 refrigerant), mostly new front end components (i.e. tie rods, steering shock, control are bushings, other bushings, etc.), new German Boge shocks, new Perilli tires, new hydropneumatic rear accumulators, new front and rear brake pad, valve adjustment, new shifter bushings, new air filter, new fuel lines, new hydrolic suspension hoses, freshly lubricated door jams/sunroof/other hinges, tune-up, glow plugs, oil change, number one service, etc. at a cost of $6,927.
NOTE: The comprehensive maintenance and restoration records total nearly $30k.
NOTE: This car would be a perfect candidate for any alternative fuels such as biodiesel, straight vegetable oil (SVO), waste vegetable oil (WVO), etc.

Accessories Condition: All power windows function excellent. Sunroof works excellent. Central locking works excellent. Air conditioning/heater/defroster all work excellent. Becker AM/FM cassette stereo and power antenna work excellent. Instrument cluster gauges all work excellent, including; clock, odometer, tachometer, tripometer, rheostat illumination switch, oil pressure gauge, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, etc. Seats adjust smooth and proper. Glove compartment opens/closes/locks properly. One key fits front doors, rear hatch, and glove compartment (1 spare key included). Headlights work excellent, along with high beams, fog lights, brake lights, parking lights (side markers), reverse lights, both dome lights, turn signals, trunk light, license plate lights, glove compartment light, accessory switch illumination lights, instrument cluster lights, etc.

General Wear and Optional Repairs: Cruise control does not set and hold properly. The center climate vents do not blow as efficiently as the side, defrost and lower climate vents, with that said, the A/C and heat cool and warm the cabin very effectively.

History: (I have owned this car twice) The original owner purchased this wagon new from The House of Imports in Buena Park, CA in June of 1983, and sold it to the second owner in 1992. I purchased this car from the second owner in Newport Beach California in the fall of 2007, and until last year, this wagon spent its entire life in California. I sold the car via eBay in December of 2007 for $19,500 to a gentleman in Essex, Connecticut. He was a former Mercedes-Benz corporation employee and an avid MB enthusiast. He purchased the wagon at his wife’s request–after years of driving newer luxury station wagons, she decided she wanted here old 300TD back, which they had owned several of in the past. After selling this wagon to him last year, he continued to add to its amazing condition by replacing items just for his own fanatical pleasure (example; new Bosio fuel injectors, factory MB differential, completely new A/C system, new Boge shocks, etc., all validated through records). Recently, his wife decided she wanted a Prius hybrid, and so he offered me the option of purchasing the wagon back at a fair price. This is how I came upon owning it again. I flew out to Madison, CT in October and enjoyed an amazing drive through New England during Indian Summer. I have all previous owner contact information.
